A report by the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, published on 31 August 2022, assessing allegations of serious human rights violations against Uyghurs and other predominantly Muslim communities in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China, including arbitrary detention, torture and forced labour. It concluded that the extent of arbitrary and discriminatory detention may constitute international crimes, in particular crimes against humanity, while stopping short of using the word genocide.

Reliability Tier
1
The United Nations human rights office's own official assessment, the same reliability class as the UN Human Rights Council Fact-Finding Mission report on Myanmar already cited elsewhere in the atlas: a primary institutional finding, not independent academic scholarship, and published only as the outgoing High Commissioner left office, which the report itself has been criticized in some quarters for delaying.
