The Book of Mormon is the Latter-day Saint movement's own founding scripture, first printed in 1830 by E. B. Grandin, and this record is that original printing specifically, held apart from the Church's later officially published edition, which carries the modern subtitle Another Testament of Jesus Christ adopted in 1981 and is recorded separately in this register as a custodian source for the movement's current position. This record states plainly that the book's account of its own origin, translated by Joseph Smith from golden plates by his own account, is the movement's own claim rather than an independently verified history, a distinction this record maintains rather than blurs.
