The Dredging of the Sacred Cenote of Chichen Itza 1904-1914

Guillermo Palacios's The Dredging of the Sacred Cenote of Chichen Itza, 1904-1914, published in the peer reviewed journal Historia Mexicana in 2017, is a scholarly historical study of Edward H. Thompson's early twentieth century dredging of the cenote, financed by Harvard's Peabody Museum and private Boston collectors. Its authority rests on peer review by El Colegio de Mexico's flagship history journal and Palacios's direct archival research into the episode. It is a history of the excavation and its colonial era funding and ethics, not an archaeological catalogue of what the dredging actually recovered, which needs a separate source.
