George Percy Badger's The Nestorians and Their Rituals, Joseph Masters, London, 1852, is a primary nineteenth century account, not a modern scholarly study. Its strength is that Badger, an Anglican clergyman who traveled and lived among the Church of the East's communities, recorded firsthand observation of their rituals at a time when few outside accounts existed. Its limit is that it is a nineteenth century missionary traveler's own record, shaped by his own religious perspective and the period's limitations, and should be checked against later independent scholarship on the Church of the East.
