The Right Angle Cross of Penetration, named here in its reverse order as Gate 57 and Gate 51, carries the same two gate pairs as its better known counterpart with sun and earth exchanged. Its first article reads Gate 57 as intuition in the present moment, read through hearing rather than sight, now the more exposed of the pair, and Gate 51 as competitive courage that goes first and can startle others awake. What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this ordering draws one gate from each of the four.
Gate 57, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding. Gate 51, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind. Behind them, Gate 53 falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form, and Gate 54 falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation.
So the intuition and the startling courage the first article reads on this ordering's surface answer to the arcs of bonding and mind, while the pressure to begin and the rising ambition beneath them answer to the arcs of form and transformation. Four gates, four different Quarters, no pair sharing an arc: exchanging which gate carries the Sun changes what this cross puts forward first, but not which Quarters supply its four gates.
