A panel painting in oil and tempera on lime wood by Albrecht Durer, circa 1511 to 1513, showing an imagined portrait of the Frankish emperor Charlemagne (742 to 814), crowned and holding an imperial sword and orb, since "no resemblance is known of Charlemagne" for Durer to have followed. Commissioned by the city council of Nuremberg, it originally formed one of a pair of cabinet doors, alongside a companion portrait of Emperor Sigismund, protecting the city's coronation vestments and imperial regalia. Held by the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Nuremberg, Germany.
