Reproduction and Copyright
Lead plaquettes of this kind, cast from a wax, stone or wood model, were a reproducible decorative medium made in some number at centres such as Nuremberg and Augsburg from around 1510 onward; goldsmiths, bronze founders and cabinetmakers used them to ornament caskets, sword hilts and other decorative objects, so surviving examples of a given design exist as multiples rather than as one unique work. 1
