Guru Lineage Polity

Church, Sacraments and Authority

Guru lineage polity is the governance form recorded in this atlas for religious bodies whose authority rests in a living teacher and that teacher's succession. Wikipedia describes the guru-shishya tradition, or parampara, as denoting a succession of teachers and disciples in Indian-origin religions such as Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism, and Buddhism, which is the background for this form. In this atlas the entity stands for the governance form itself, so denominations, religious orders and societies governed this way can be grouped and compared under it, while each member entry keeps its own governance facts and sources.
