Juxtaposition Cross of Bargains (37/40)

The Juxtaposition Cross of Bargains carries the same pair as the Left Angle Cross of Migration, Gate 37 and Gate 40, which are in fact the two ends of one channel, Community. Human Design reads Gate 37, from Hexagram 37, The Family, sitting in the Solar Plexus, as the warmth of family and friendship, the bargain that holds a household together; and Gate 40, from Hexagram 40, Deliverance, sitting in the Heart or Will centre, as the willpower to work, held against a real need for aloneness and rest. Juxtaposition Crosses stand apart from the other two families, tied only to the four line one profile, and are read as the most fixed direction the system names.

Its design half is Gate 5 and Gate 35, unchanged from the Cross of Migration. Gate 5 sits in the Sacral centre and is read as fixed rhythm, an inner timing that keeps eating, sleeping and working patterned; it pairs with Gate 15 in the channel of Rhythm. Gate 35 sits in the Throat and is read as a hunger for progress and for the feeling only a new experience supplies; it pairs with Gate 36 in the channel of Transitoriness.

Where the Left Angle reading serves something handed back by circumstance, the Juxtaposition reading holds the same whole channel of belonging as fixed to the four line one profile rather than fated. The same pair also reverses as the Cross of Denial. The numbers are inherited from the I Ching; reading them as one cross belongs to the modern reading, not the classical one.

The Juxtaposition Cross of Bargains is named here for Gate 37 and Gate 40, the two ends of the Community channel. Its first article reads Gate 37 as the warmth of family and friendship, the bargain that holds a household together, now the more exposed gate, and Gate 40 as the willpower to work, held against a real need for aloneness and rest. What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this cross draws one gate from each of the four.

Gate 37, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind. Gate 40, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding. Behind them, Gate 5 falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation, and Gate 35 falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form.

So the household bargain and the willpower held against the need for rest the first article reads on this cross's surface, one whole channel of belonging, answer to the arcs of mind and bonding, while the fixed rhythm and the hunger for progress beneath them answer to the arcs of transformation and form. The same pair, exchanged, is this cross's own reversal, the Juxtaposition Cross of Denial, and, held instead in the Left Angle family, the Cross of Migration, both orderings; the Right Angle family carries the identical pair too, as the Cross of Planning, both orderings. Four gates, four different Quarters, no pair sharing an arc: even with two of its own four gates already locked into one channel, this cross still draws its Quarter reading from every corner of the wheel rather than concentrated in one.
