Naya Udasin Akhara

The Naya Udasin Akhara, formally the Udasin Panchayati Naya Akhara, is a Sanatan Sikh monastic order founded in 1846 by Mahant Sudhir Das as a splinter from the older Bada Udasin Akhara after an internal dispute, its name meaning new. Like the Bada Udasin Akhara, its members follow Sri Chand, whom the order calls Guru Chandracharya, and share much of the same belief and practice. The order is based at Kankhal in Uttarakhand and is governed by a council called the Shree Panch; its entry processions at the Kumbh Mela are distinctive for including no acharya, no palanquin and no ceremonial weapons.
