A tempera panel painting titled "Saint Ambrose," by the Sienese painter Giovanni di Paolo, ca. 1465 to 1470. Ambrose is shown vested as a bishop, honored as one of the four original Latin Doctors of the Church whose preaching in Milan shaped the Western liturgy and, by his own account, moved Augustine of Hippo toward baptism. Held today by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Robert Lehman Collection, under accession 1975.1.30.
