Richard Hughes Seager's Encountering the Dharma, published by the University of California Press in 2006, is a scholarly study of Daisaku Ikeda, the Soka Gakkai movement he leads, and its globalization as a lay Buddhist humanist movement. Seager is an established scholar of American and global religion. Its strength is that it is a peer-reviewed academic monograph combining historical and sociological method with access to Soka Gakkai's own materials.
