Franz Cumont's Textes et monuments figures relatifs aux mysteres de Mithra, published by H. Lamertin in 1899, is the foundational scholarly collection of texts and monuments on the Mithraic mysteries. Its strength is that it assembled and organized the evidence base later scholars have all worked from. Its limit, and the atlas records its own source type as scholarly but superseded, is that Cumont's central thesis, that Roman Mithraism descended directly from Persian Zoroastrianism, has since been substantially revised or rejected by later scholarship even though the collected evidence remains valuable.
