Plants of the World Online

Plants of the World Online is the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew's own maintained scientific database of plant taxonomy and nomenclature, and its standing rests on that institution's documented botanical authority and on the database's own continuous curation and revision as taxonomy changes, rather than on Kew's name alone. It is authoritative for the correct botanical identification, classification and distribution of a named plant or the plant source of an incense or material, checkable directly against the live database entry. Use it for a plant's scientific classification and identity; it is not a source on any tradition's ritual or symbolic use of that plant, a separate question this taxonomic database does not attempt to address and which needs a source specific to that tradition.
