Fantasy and Anticipation

Human Design makes frequent use of genetic language, and the claim underneath it needs to be separated carefully from the metaphor built on top of it.

The arithmetic is real. The I Ching has sixty-four hexagrams because each is six lines with two possible states, and two to the sixth power is sixty-four. The genetic code has sixty-four codons because each is three bases drawn from an alphabet of four, and four cubed is sixty-four. Both numbers are sixty-four, and both arise from a short sequence over a small alphabet. That much is simply true and can be checked.

The inference is not established. Human Design treats the coincidence as evidence of a correspondence, mapping gates to codons and describing activated gates as genetic imprinting. There is no result in molecular biology supporting a mapping between hexagrams and codons, no mechanism by which planetary positions could select codons, and no peer-reviewed work testing the proposal. The correspondence is an analogy that the system finds illuminating, and it should be described as such.

Gate 41 carries a specific version of this. Human Design holds that it begins the cycle of all sixty-four, and describes it by analogy with a start codon, the triplet at which the reading of a gene begins. Within the system this gives Gate 41 a structural priority: it is where the round of human experience starts. In the I Ching, the forty-first hexagram is Decrease, and occupies no special position in the King Wen sequence at all.

So the start-of-cycle claim is Ra Uru Hu's, dating from 1987, and it is an architectural decision within his system rather than a fact about either the I Ching or genetics. Practitioners hold it; the entries here describe it without asserting it.

Among the distinctive features of Human Design is a specific physical mechanism, which Ra Uru Hu proposed and which most other systems of this kind do not attempt.

The claim is that neutrinos are the carrier. Neutrinos are produced in enormous quantities by nuclear fusion in stars, pass through matter almost unimpeded, and stream through every human body continuously. Human Design holds that these particles carry information from the bodies that emit them, and that as they pass through a person they imprint that information, so that the planetary positions at particular moments become fixed in the individual.

One part of this is worth reporting accurately because it is often garbled in both directions. Ra Uru Hu maintained from 1987 that neutrinos have mass, at a time when the standard model treated them as massless and the question was genuinely open in physics. In 1998 the Super-Kamiokande experiment demonstrated neutrino oscillation, which implies non-zero mass, and the result was recognised with a share of the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physics. Practitioners cite this as a confirmed prediction.

What the physics does not supply is the rest of the claim. That neutrinos have a small mass is established. That they carry structured information about the stars they came from, that this information is imprinted on biological tissue, and that the imprint corresponds to hexagram positions on a zodiacal wheel, are not established and are not the subject of any research programme. Neutrinos interact with matter so weakly that detecting them at all requires enormous instruments, which is the specific difficulty the informational claim would need to address.
