Mirror Crosses: Three Right Angle Pairs in Human Design

12 stops

Human Design builds each incarnation cross from two gates, and the same two gates can be read in either order, so one pair of hexagrams yields two crosses. This path takes three Right Angle names (the Sphinx, the Four Ways and Planning) and walks their mirrored crosses side by side, so a reader can see what changes when the order of the same gates is reversed.

Stop 1 of 12.
Human Design Crosses

The Sphinx begins with Gate 1, Creative Self Expression (Hexagram 1, The Creative), set first and Gate 2, Receptive Direction (Hexagram 2, The Receptive), second. Both sit in the G or Identity centre, so this cross pairs the urge to give creative direction outward form with the receptive sense of where a life is meant to go.

Stop 2 of 12.
Human Design Crosses

The mirror of the previous stop puts Gate 2 first and Gate 1 second. The two gates and their shared G centre are unchanged; only the order differs, and the atlas notes that grouping these ancient hexagrams into one incarnation cross is the modern system's own construction.

Human Design Crosses

A second Sphinx pairing starts from Gate 7, Leadership By Role (Hexagram 7, The Army), read as the self cast as leader guiding toward a shared future, with Gate 13, The Listener (Hexagram 13, Fellowship), read as the one who is told the stories of the past. Both gates sit in the G or Identity centre.

Stop 4 of 12.
Human Design Crosses

Here the order flips, with The Listener (Gate 13) first and Leadership By Role (Gate 7) second. Compare it with the previous stop: the same two gates in the G centre, but the listener now leads and the leadership follows.

Stop 5 of 12.
Human Design Crosses

The Four Ways moves out of the G centre. Gate 19, Sensing Needs (Hexagram 19, Approach), sits in the Root and is read as sensitivity to what a community needs materially, while Gate 33, Private Retreat (Hexagram 33, Retreat), sits in the Throat and is read as the need to withdraw and hold an experience privately before telling it.

Stop 6 of 12.
Human Design Crosses

The mirror starts with Private Retreat (Gate 33, Throat) and ends with Sensing Needs (Gate 19, Root). The atlas describes the Right Angle family as the personal one, a direction shaped by what the individual decides, and notes that reading the numbers as one cross belongs to the modern reading, not the classical one.

Stop 7 of 12.
Human Design Crosses

A second Four Ways pairing joins Gate 24, Returning Rationalization (Hexagram 24, Return), in the Ajna, read as a mind circling a thought until it resolves, with Gate 44, Instinctive Enterprise (Hexagram 44, Coming to Meet), in the Spleen, read as an instinctive memory for people and patterns.

Stop 8 of 12.
Human Design Crosses

The same two gates reversed, with the Spleen instinct of Gate 44 first and the Ajna rumination of Gate 24 second. The atlas records that pairing them as a life direction dates from the system's founding in 1987, though both hexagrams are old texts.

Stop 9 of 12.
Human Design Crosses

Planning pairs Gate 9, Focused Detail (Hexagram 9, Small Taming), in the Sacral centre, read as attention to the small details a larger idea depends on, with Gate 16, Enthusiastic Skill (Hexagram 16, Enthusiasm), in the Throat, read as enthusiasm refined by repetition into real skill.

Stop 10 of 12.
Human Design Crosses

The mirror of Planning opens with the Throat skill of Gate 16 and closes with the Sacral detail of Gate 9. The atlas describes the Right Angle group as the largest of the system's three, read as a personal destiny that answers mainly to the individual's own choices.

Stop 11 of 12.
Human Design Crosses

A second Planning pairing sets Gate 37, Family Friendship (Hexagram 37, The Family), in the Solar Plexus, read as the warmth and bargain that holds a household together, against Gate 40, Aloneness And Will (Hexagram 40, Deliverance), in the Heart or Will centre, read as willpower to work balanced by a need for solitude.

Stop 12 of 12.
Human Design Crosses

The path ends on the reversed pairing, with the willpower and solitude of Gate 40 first and the household warmth of Gate 37 second. Having seen six pairs, a reader can judge for themselves whether the order of two gates changes the meaning, noting that the atlas calls the grouping the modern system's own construction.
